Following our most recent Lions Business Meeting the club have agreed to financially support the following requests.

Once again through the generosity of all those people who support Hayling Island Lions Club either through our shop or our Fund Raising efforts we have been able to help many local charities and individuals during this past year.  These include the following:-

During the months of August and September the Lions Club of Hayling Island have responded to 3 requests for financial assistance.  These requests fell within our constitution and the club were happy to help.

The sponsoring of a Christmas Tree to be set up in Mengham during the Christmas period.  

 A contribution to a local lady who is organising a Christmas Day Dinner and Entertainment for senior citizens living on their own on this special day of the year. The Lions contribution will pay for the food and also a picnic for the guests to take home.

A request via The Bridge Centre and Social Services to purchase of a washing machine for a gentleman who  is in dire need

Hayling Island Community  Centre We have donated £11,000, this meant they now have all the target funds to begin the project.

Hayling Island Businessmen Club Bus - Hayling Lions have again donated to this valuable resource for the Hayling Island Community. 

St Mary's Community Room Extension.    Lions presented a cheque for £1000 to Alan Hoad of St Mary’s Church to assist with the building of a community room at the side of the church. 

 999 Day.    The Lions Club agreed to part sponsor this public community event.

 BEST Summer Concerts on the Plaza.    The club agreed to sponsor the Insurance for this series of Summer Musical events.

 H4SG (Hayling for St George).    Now in its 4th year this very successful day is becoming part of the annual Hayling Calendar of Events. The Lions Club are pleased to provide financial support for one of the bands appearing on the day.

 Hayling Job Club.    Run voluntarily by a local lady, this club provides support to young people looking for work.

The total spent from the income generated from the Lions Shop from 2011 upto 2014 exceeded   £115,000.00.

Thanks to the generosity of Islanders (and visitors) supporting our Lions Community Shop in Elm Grove we have been able to give financial support to many local clubs, associations, schools and individuals. 

The above figure only includes LOCAL Hayling  Island requests. You will notice from the list that some of the requests are from organisations off the Island. These donations are not included in the total. It was agreed when the shop first opened all monies from the shop would stay on the Island. Any requests from Lions Nationally or Internationally is taken from our other fund raising activities.

The range is vast and below are some of the recipients we have helped over the last 2 years:

 

Footsteps Mother & Toddler Group  -  new toys

Hayling for St George (H4SG)  -  FOC annual event on Seafront. Lions cover cost of one of the bands who appear

Mengham & Mill Rythe Junior Schools  -  financial assistance with purchase of books for school library

Mengham Junior School  -  help with modernising school library

Holiday in specially adapted hotel for couple with vision impairment

The Hayling College  -  adapting old unused tennis courts into multi use Games Area

Hayling Island BEST-  organise music concerts throughout the summer months on the Seafront FOC. Lions cover the cost of the insurance for these events

St Patricks Mother & Toddler Group  -  new toys for children

Hampshire Police HI Rock scheme  -  covered cost of specific youngsters being given chance of attending climbing lessons

Boys Brigade  -  new group being started on Island. Cost of uniforms covered

Specially adapted wheelchair purchased for young man with severe multiple physical disabilities

Young at Heart Club  - financial assistance to cover cost of coach for summer outing 

Fire Service  -- annual round Hayling Kayak event

Mill Rythe Infant School  -  Sliding Lid cover for school playground sandpit

Hayling Cricket Club  - junior section cricket gear

Havant Youth Training Scheme  -  teach youngsters water safety

Hayling Island U3A  -  help towards historical research for book covering Hayling during World War1

Defibrillator  -  for public use. To be installed on wall of The Hayling College 

Hayling Island Horticultural Society  -  sponsor youth section in their 3 annual shows

Friends of Hayling Rescue  -  contribution towards repair cost of rescue boat

Abseil event  -  contribution towards equipment costs

Churches To-gether  -  supporting the group who provide help for Hayling families in need

Young Carers Group  -  funding to cover cost of meeting place plus an outing

Sam's Haven  -  contribution towards holiday home being purchased for children with life threatening conditions to have a family holiday

Defibrillator at Community Centre  -  contribution made towards the cost

Chenobyl Children's Visit  - purchase of clothing for the children's annual visit

Cycle Ride for LIBRA  -this organisation supports the Haematology Department of Kings College Hospital

British Red Cross -  Pamper Day

Langstone Cutters Rowing Club -  supporting purchase of additional gigs

Summer Play Scheme for local disadvantaged and vulnerable children

Sailing Therapy for people with Learning and Physical difficulties

Hayling Island Hedgehog Rescue  -  assisted in setting up a sanctuary  for hedgehogs

St Andrews Football Club  -  sponsoring of two team kits

Growing To-gether Project  -  HIHS & THC working with students to introduce them to gardening

Memorial Plaque  - inscribed with names of young men missing in action from WW1 who so far had not been  recognised on existing plaques. This is on the wall inside St Mary's Church
